Ilsee™ Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 5, 2026
Ilsee is a darkroom contact-printing app made by Joy Code LLC. This policy explains what information the app handles, what (if anything) leaves your device, and the choices you have.
The short version: your photos never leave your device. The only data Ilsee ever sends anywhere is anonymous, technical, and strictly opt-in.
Your photos stay on your device
Ilsee uses the system photo picker to let you choose a photo to print. This means:
Ilsee can only access the specific photos you choose. It has no access to the rest of your photo library.
All image processing — conversion to black and white, tone correction, sizing, and exposure — happens entirely on your device.
Your photos are never uploaded, transmitted, or shared with anyone: not with us, and not with any third party.
Anonymous usage data (optional, opt-in only)
Ilsee can optionally share anonymous technical data about your prints and screen calibrations so we can build better default settings for each device model and paper. This is off by default. It only happens if you choose Share Anonymous Data during onboarding, or turn it on later under Settings › Privacy.
If you opt in, Ilsee records a short technical event each time you complete a print or a screen calibration. Every event includes:
Your device model (for example, "iPhone17,2"), whether it is an iPhone or iPad, and its iOS or iPadOS version
The Ilsee app version
The paper profile you had selected
The date and time of the event
A randomly generated install identifier (see below)
A print event also includes the exposure time you used, your calibrated base exposure time and the difference between the two, your calibrated screen brightness, your placement-delay setting, whether your device was calibrated, and when that calibration was done.
A calibration event also includes the final brightness and exposure values you arrived at, how many attempts it took, and how the calibration ended (for example, accepted, adjusted manually, or limited by the screen's brightness range).
That is the complete list. This data contains no photos, no names, no email addresses, no location, no contacts, no Apple Account information, and nothing else that identifies you.
About the install identifier
The install identifier is a random value created by the app the first time it runs. It is not your device's serial number or advertising identifier, it is not tied to your Apple Account, and it is not connected to your identity in any way. Its only purpose is to let us group events that came from the same installation — for example, to see whether calibrating improves print results over time.
If you turn data sharing off and later turn it back on, Ilsee generates a brand-new identifier, so earlier data cannot be connected to newer data.
Where this data goes
Anonymous usage data is sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to a database we operate on Supabase, our hosting provider. Like any internet request, that connection exposes your device's IP address to the hosting provider, which may hold it briefly in routine infrastructure logs. We do not store IP addresses alongside the usage data.
We use this data solely to improve Ilsee — primarily to learn good starting calibration values for different device models and papers, which may then ship as default settings in future versions of the app. We do not sell it, share it with data brokers, or use it for advertising, profiling, or tracking of any kind.
Turning it off
You can stop sharing at any time under Settings › Privacy. When sharing is off, nothing is recorded and nothing is sent. If your device was offline, Ilsee may hold recorded events locally until it can send them; turning sharing off deletes any events that have not yet been sent.
What Ilsee does not do
No account or sign-in is required, and none exists.
No advertising, no ad networks, and no third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
No tracking across apps or websites. Ilsee's App Store privacy label and its privacy manifest both declare that the app does not track you.
No selling or sharing of data with third parties, beyond the hosting provider that stores the anonymous data described above.
No collection of names, email addresses, contacts, location, or any other personal information.
Links to our website
Ilsee's Settings screen includes links to our website for tutorials and accessories. Following those links opens your web browser and takes you outside the app. Our website's own practices apply there, and we do not receive any information from the app about whether or when you followed a link.
Apple
Ilsee is distributed through Apple's App Store and TestFlight. Apple may collect its own information about app downloads, crashes, and usage under Apple's privacy policy and your device's analytics settings. That information is handled by Apple, not by us, and we do not receive anything from it that identifies you.
Data retention and deletion
Because the usage data we receive is anonymous, we have no way to determine which records came from you or your device, and therefore cannot locate or delete records for a specific person. Turning off data sharing stops all future collection immediately and deletes anything not yet sent from your device. We keep the anonymous data for as long as it is useful for improving the app's calibration defaults.
Children's privacy
Ilsee is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy — for example, if a future version of Ilsee handles something new — we will update this page and the effective date above. Material changes will also be called out in the app's release notes.
